BPC and IDECC joint field programs in Nigeria
The joint venture BPC and IDECC currently works
in several programs of ecology and biodiversity conservation studies in
Nigeria, with 20 permanent staff,24 part-time, and 10 volunteers. Under the
auspices of GEF – Global Environmental Facility and UNDP – United Nations
Development Programme, and in collaboration with the University of Uyo and the
Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt, our institutes
are carrying out local scale education programs for communities in crucial
megadiverse sites, and ecological studies on highly threatened species. In particular,
our scientific and conservation attention has gone to the threatened forest
tortoises (Kinixys homeana and Kinixys erosa) of the Niger Delta rainforests,
and to the forest mammals of this important biodiversity hotspot and eco-region
